Birth Family DNA Database
Next Generation Guatemala and the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG) is developing a familial DNA database that our birth families can participate in directly if they want to connect with us. When birth family and adoptee contribute DNA, both parties can prepare for reunion when a match is made.
What information is required? FAFG would like to know where your current location is (to determine where tests need to be sent and collected from), and where your birth family may be located (to determine where to target DNA sampling). Even if your documents say you were born in Guatemala City, please look for any additional details about where your family might have been from.
How will this info be used/protected? NGG will not and has never used individual information for personal, political, or commercial profit. Donors sign a consent form agreeing to give their sample and share the information with FAFG, but FAFG never shares information outside of their organization.
The FAFG asks for this information to develop a sample population of where our families overlap with the families they already work with in Guatemala.
